The story of two men and their epic quest for a grown-up bed.

Hey, everyone! My name is Bryan Horch and I am a filmmaker and an American Sign Language Interpreter living in Western Massachusetts. I have been professionally involved in documentary and educational filmmaking for over fifteen years. I also love making playful and provocative narrative films that illuminate the absurdities and contradictions of life. Spooners is my latest venture in this direction. This time, however, we are stepping up the production values with a talented team of actors and crew, which means we will need financial support.
THE REAL STORY
Occasionally I’m faced with those awkward moments when employees at stores make assumptions about my sexual orientation, asking questions about my “wife” or “girlfriend.” So when I was shopping for a bed this past summer, I was impressed when the computerized mattress analyzer asked me about the gender of my “sleeping partner.” But when it announced in a booming computer voice: YOU ARE A MALE WITH A MALE SLEEPING PARTNER, I wanted to crawl under the bed.
It was telling the truth, but I admit- I became queasy imagining what it would do with the information, how the other shoppers might react, and what presumptuous questions about my bed habits were coming next. After bolting from the store, and catching my breath from laughing at the ridiculousness of it all, I kicked myself for not sticking around for the rest of the interrogation. I decided to let my imagination run wild in the form of a short screenplay, which is how Spooners was born.
THE BUDGET GOAL

We have already shot a beautiful film with high production values that we intend to show in film festivals all over the world. The total budget necessary to complete the film was $25,000. We have achieved raising $8,000 through Kickstarter, and now need $17,000 to cover post-production costs for editing, animation, visual effects, sound mixing, music composition, and distribution.
Your contribution will go directly toward paying professional post-production technicians, sound mix engineers, animators, music composers, and digital compositors. We will also integrate captions seamlessly with the aesthetic of the film for full language accessibility, which incurs additional costs. With amazing locations secured and a talented cast and crew waiting in the wings, we are eager to move forward on the production.
THE TEAM

The talented team of artists who will collaborate on this film include comedian Ben Lerman, actor Walter Replogle, Director of Photography Matt Bucy, Producer Amanda Hannan, and Scenic Designer/ puppeteer David Regan to name a few. With your contribution and support, you also become a valued part of the team and will be recognized on our website and in the credits.
THE REWARDS

No matter how much you can donate, we will be incredibly grateful. Every cent will be put to good use. There are various rewards available for your generosity: buttons, drool-proof Spooners pillow cases, and signed DVDs. And if you really love this project and want top billing, you can be credited as the Executive Producer!
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing funding platform. If we don’t reach our goal, then your credit cards will not be charged- which means we won’t receive a penny (and we really need your pennies). This is a high stakes campaign. So please spread the word!
Thanks in advance for helping us make this funny, whimsical and relevant short film come to life! Click HERE to see our Kickstarter campaign.
